Orbi 870 Mesh Setup| RBE871 Router & RBE870 Satellite
Netgear Orbi 870 series have RBE871 router and RBE870 satellite in its package box. Both of the router and satllites are easy to connect with any brand modem via Ethernet cable.
We will explain here about how to setup the Orbi 850 mesh system easily in your home. In this Orbi setup, we will also provide you with the instructions to update, change WiFi password, reset, and reboot the Orbi 870 mesh system.
Orbi 870 Setup
Plug in and Power Up
Start with Connecting the Orbi RBE871 router to your modem using the Ethernet cable provided. Then plug in the power adapter and let it boot. You’ll see the ring LED light up wait for it to turn solid white. That’s your signal that it’s alive and kicking.
Now, do the same with your satellites. Place them in areas where the signal usually drops bedrooms, upstairs, the kitchen, maybe even that one weird hallway that gets no bars.
Once plugged in, their lights should also turn solid white after a few minutes. If they go blue, sync Orbi satellite with the router and you’re golden. If you get amber or magenta, don’t panic we’ll handle that in the troubleshooting bit.
Orbi App Setup
Open the App Store or Google Play and download the Orbi app by Netgear. The app will act as the setup assistant walks you through everything, step by step.
- Inside the app, you have to create or log into your Netgear account, and follow the prompts.
- Scan a QR code on the bottom of your router.
- Once that’s done, it’ll search for the router and guide you through naming your Wi-Fi and setting a password.
Orbilogin.com Setup
To set up your Orbi 870 router via computer or laptop, you can use the Orbi login web-based interface. Just follow a few steps to access the interface:
- Connect your laptop with the Orbi network via default SSID credentials given on the router’s back label.
- Now, open any web browser on your internet device and search Orbilogin.net, orbilogin.com or IP address 192.168.1.1.
- A login window will appear, here enter the Orbi router login default credentials:
Username: admin
Password: password
- Click LOGIN, and you will reach inside the interface. The interface will give you a guide through the setup process.
- The process includes creating Orbi network (new SSID username & password), satellite connection, Frequency change, & much more.
- Make sure after the setup you change the admin username and password because of some security reasons.

Change WiFi Password
Via Orbi App
Open and access Orbi app > Go into Menu > select Wireless Settings > enter the new SSID password here > click SAVE to apply the new password.
Via Orbilogin.com
Access the orbilogin.com on your computer > go into the Administration tab > open the Wireless Settings > select SSID > enter new password > SAVE to apply.
Change Admin Password
- You have to access the interface (orbilogin.net) on your computer.
- Access through the old interface username & password.
- Inside the interface, find and open the Administration option.
- Here, select the admin tab, enter the new password & SAVE it.
- Now, you can use the new admin password to access the interface.
Firmware Update
No one loves waiting for updates, but it’s crucial. In way of completing the setup the app will check for the latest firmware if it asks to update, just let it. In a few minutes, everything run smoother and safer.
Test the Connection
Once you’re done setting up, walk around the house with your phone and check the signal. Is it strong in the bathroom? The basement? The garage? That’s the magic of mesh Wi-Fi you’ll notice the difference immediately.

Troubleshooting Tips: Orbi 870 Setup
Even with an easy setup, errors happen. Here’s how to handle common ones:
1. Satellite Light is Amber or Magenta?
Move it closer to the router. Maybe there’s a thick wall blocking the signal that’s why Orbi lights are blinking. Try placing it midway between the router and the dead zone.
2. App Can’t Find the Router?
In this kind of situation, you must reboot everything modem, router, and phone. Sometimes the tech just needs a little nudge.
3. Wi-Fi Keeps Dropping?
Check for firmware updates. Also, try repositioning the satellites. Too close or too far from the router can cause issues.
4. Still Stuck?
Reset all setup. Just hold Reset button on the back of the router or satellite for about 10 seconds until the light turns amber. It’ll reset the unit and give you a fresh start.
How to Reset Orbi 870 Router and Satellite?
You have to use a paper pin or pen to reset the devices. Find the reset button on the back of the router & satellite. Press and hold it for 10 seconds. By releasing the button, the reset process will start. After a few minutes, it will complete and the router will look like a new one.
Now, you have to re-do the Orbi 870 setup again through the Orbi app or orbi router login interface.
How to Reboot Router and Satellite?
Restarting any device will refresh its settings & hardware and might wipe all bugs and glitches out. To restart, cut of the power supply to the router & satellite and wait for the 10-20 seconds. Then, supply the power again. You can do it by pressing the power button on the devices twice or pull out/in the power adapter from the wall outlet.
