Tip: If you don’t have the app yet, do this while your router is powering up.

Syncing Orbi Satellites with Router

The Orbi 770 satellites expand your coverage so every corner of your house gets full-speed internet.

You want them halfway between your router and where the signal usually drops off like that back bedroom or basement. Once placed:

  • Plug them in
  • Wait for the white LED to start pulsing, just like the router
  • They’ll sync automatically with the router in a few minutes

If the LED turns blue, congrats! That means you’ve got a strong connection. Amber? It’s OK, but not ideal. Red? You’re too far move the satellite closer to the router.

Name Your Network and Set a Password

In the app, you’ll be prompted to name your Wi-Fi network and set a password. Don’t leave it as “ORBI1234” or something obvious like “admin123” you’re better than that.

Make it something memorable

Firmware Update

Right after Orbi satellite setup, the app will ask you to install any firmware updates. The Orbi firmware updates often fix bugs, improve performance, and even boost security. So just do it now while everything’s fresh through the app or interfaces.

Firmware Update

Common Issues & Tips for Orbi 770 Setup

Problem1 : App Can’t Detect the Router

Try restarting both the router and your modem. Also, double-check your connections. You’d be surprised how many people forget to push the Ethernet cable in all the way.

Problem2 : Satellite Light Stays Red

Move it closer to the router and try syncing again. Still red? Do a quick reset using the pinhole reset button on the satellite.

Problem3 : Internet Feels Slow / Orbi Purple Light

Check if there’s a firmware update pending. Also, make sure your devices are actually connected to the Orbi Wi-Fi and not your old router by mistake. These tips might solve the Orbi purple light issue.

Tip: Keep the satellites out in the open no hiding behind bookshelves or fish tanks. Mesh signals hate walls and obstacles.

Other Important Solutions and Tips

Soft Reset Orbi Router and Satellites

  1. Usually, the main unit connected directly to your modem. It’s the one with a blue or white LED ring on top.
  2. You’ll find it on the back of the router. Press and hold the button until the device powers off (about 10 seconds).
  3. Pull the power cord out of the socket. Wait at least 10-30 seconds. This helps discharge any lingering power in the capacitors.
  4. Reconnect the power cord and press the power button again. Give it a minute or two to fully reboot.

Wait for the LED Ring

The router will go through a color sequence:

  • Solid white: Starting up
  • Pulsing white: Booting up
  • Solid blue or white: All set and ready

If you see solid magenta or blinking amber, the router might not be connecting to the internet. You may need to check the modem.

Hard Reset Orbi Router and Satellite

  1. Make sure your Orbi router & satellite is turned on and connected to power. The power light should be white, magenta, or blue—just not off.
  2. On the back of your Orbi router and satellite, find the small RESET hole. Usually, it’s next to the power port or Ethernet jacks.
  3. Grab your paperclip. Press and hold the reset button for 10–15 seconds. Watch the power LED—when it starts blinking amber (or orange), release the button.
  4. This part takes about 2–3 minutes. The router will go through a series of LED colors. Eventually, it’ll settle on a pulsing white light.
  5. Now re-do the orbi 770 setup again. Open the Orbi app or head to orbilogin.com from your browser. Follow the on-screen steps to set up your network from scratch.
